1. Our role
Users upload their own books for personal reading. Uploaded files are private: only the account that uploaded a book can open it. Content becomes visible to others only if a user creates a share link for a conversation, which can include quotes from the book.
We respect intellectual property. We act on notices under the EU Digital Services Act and handle notices in the format of the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) the same way.
2. Uploaders' responsibility
By uploading a book, you confirm that you own the rights, have the rights holder's permission, the work is in the public domain, or your use is otherwise allowed by law. Uploading pirated copies breaks our Acceptable Use Policy.
3. How to send a notice
Email info@talktothebook.org with the subject "Copyright notice". Please include:
- Your name, postal address, and email address, and whether you are the rights holder or act on their behalf.
- The work you believe is infringed (for example, title and author).
- Exactly where the material is on the Service — the share link, or other information that lets us find it.
- Why you believe the material is illegal or infringing.
- A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the rights holder, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the rights holder or are authorised to act on their behalf.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
4. What happens next
We confirm receipt and review the notice promptly, normally within 5 business days. If it is valid, we remove or disable access to the material and tell the uploader what we did and why. We tell you the outcome.
5. If your content was removed
If you believe we removed your content by mistake, reply to our message or email info@talktothebook.org within 6 months. Identify the removed material, explain why the removal was wrong, and include your contact details. We will review the decision and restore the content if the objection is justified, and inform the person who sent the notice.
6. Repeat infringers and misuse
We close the accounts of users who repeatedly upload infringing content. Knowingly false notices may make the sender liable for damages, and we may stop processing notices from people who repeatedly send manifestly unfounded ones.
